After I wrote my 11.28 post, I realized that the point may be moot, as many of the recent station renovations have obliterated the original color-coding scheme.
If the MTA is still using that classification, I imagine the 2nd Ave subway would be part of the IND system. IRT and BMT refer to the original (private) companies that ran those lines. IND refers to the lines the city built during the 1920’s and 30’s and operated themselves from the get-go.
Here is a piece of trivia: the IND lines have a station color-coding scheme that is a mystery to decipher. Even the MTA is not exactly sure about its original intent. Next time you take one of the IND lines (like the “A” or the “F”), take notice that there is a color stripe that runs along the station wall (where the tracks are). The color of these stripes changes every few stations. From what I have seen, they change color after the tracks change direction (i.e. after a major turn).
practicing your golf? planning a move to florida soon?
no, but it will be a challenge living in Brooklyn. So I am going to try to find golf buddies by putting up posters with little rip off telephone numbers.
Tks, M4L. I can’t believe that I am doing this. All of these things I rebelled against my whole life…. I rebelled against baseball if you can imagine. My father was in the minors before WWII and he relived this thing through my brothers and it was TOO MUCH. Dinner was discussing the details of training and sometimes they used to discuss basketball plays also and I COULDN’T TALK!!!!!
I never went to Yankee games with them because that was with the BOYS. The sort of sad thing was that this was closed to girls. Although both parents went to the girls sports events, it was a shadow of the intense preoccupation with the BOYS and SPORTS. Somewhere in my late teens/twenties, I rejected this whole world of sports, including baseball. Could be TMI.
Arkady, despite the lack of straight balls, I suspect there were probably a ton of Hole-in-one’s
IND – Independent
IRT – Interborough Rapid Transit
BMT – Brooklyn, Manhattan Transit

And I doubt if the balls were hit very straight at all either.
DIBS, who is that PLUSA who needs a triple dosage prescription of Gangsta Rap & Heavy Metal??!!

“you can hit balls off my deck”
No doubt they won’t be the first balls someone’s played with on dave’s deck.
