  1. legion- you must be using IE because firefox has a built in spell check. Even on the OT (Happy Birthday).

Indeed you should rearrange your spreadsheet- you assume you know far too much of my politics from what you think is my philosophy. Never a good idea.

  3. OCD spell check:

substitute CITE for SITE ^^^^ up there.

for my birthday, I’d like the OT to have a spell check function like when I write e-mail.

    bxgrl,
    “center-left”?
ok, I will now have to re-arrange my entire OT regular
    political spectrum ID sheet.
Let’s see, who do I put on the far right and who is right in the center?

  4. On the spending cuts thing, I thought the budget balance exercise that the NYT did online a year or so ago was good.

Basically, everything is immaterial apart from Social Security and Medicare / Medicaid. To do anything meaningful, those have to be addressed. The healthcare programs are at least as important as Social Security, to my surprise.
Defense is big as well, but just cutting defense on its own would not be enough. It’s a question of ‘and’ not ‘either / or’.

Raising taxes or cutting spending in other areas could mitigate the *degree* of action required in those big three areas, but unless really extreme tax increases were proposed, they can’t alter the *fact* of needing to do something major.

  5. rob, the art of glory hole etiquette, as with any polite social exchange, is that first you establish a certain level of raport with the person on the other side. Then, as pants come off and jockeying begins, you get a feel for who is going to be doing what.
