Bush was the leader in the Iraq war because he is the one who started it.
The US did not start the uprising in Libya, and I do not see why we should take a leadership role. I do think it is appropriate for the US to work with our allies in Europe who are much more intertwined with Libya.
Scott, the oil “strategy” and the “middle east strategy” as most people here see it revolving around isreal are two completely separate issues. One tries to make sure we have enough oil at all times, the other is for the appeasement of certain voters here in the US.
I can respect that some folks think that Iraq was a mistake, but there was no doubt that GW Bush was the LEADER of that effort, and in the 2004 election he put it on the line with the voters. Even at the war’s low point in terms of success and popularity, he never flinched from the fact that it was his responsibility.
Can anyone say that that is the situation wrt Libya?
I saw some dude that looked like you crossing Bushwick Ave. at Dekalb earlier today.
He was wearing a knit cap and walking a gray pitbull on a chain link leash.
That was just after I nearly ran over some dumbass on a bike on Evergreen Ave. riding North who flew through a red light as I had a steady green going west.

Pretty “liberal arts major†type of reason for the US support of Israel.

Obama got the go ahead for the Libya attack from the UN.
I guess that’s better than actually conferring with the US Congress.
WAR FOR OIL!!
WAR FOR OIL!!
WAR FOR OIL!!
…hey, it’s fun being on the dissenting side. 😉
The only time period I can think of when the Middle East as a whole was quiet was between 1992 and 2003.
I contend that the US does not even have a real Middle East strategy around oil other than “keep enough of it flowing”

“it sure as hell reminded the middle east that there was a strong man around that many of them could actually rely on.”
ROFL!
YOu think ME countries saw the invasions as justified and the USA to be relied on??
OMG, I’m peeing in my pants laughing so hard.
The monarchy of Saudi Arabia needs to stop existing.
We need Ron & Maggie back in times like this.
