jessibaby, to reiterate what I just posted, I think that while they have made many mistakes and done much bad, Israel has treated the Palestinians much better than the Palestinians could have expected to been treated in any similar situations around the world.
I am by no means whatsoever a Palestinian sympathizer.
All, I agree that at this point it would not be a good decision to cut Israel loose after the 50 years we have invested in them.
However, I do not think it is unreasonable to reduce our future investment and/or expect them to give the U.S. more in return for what we give them.

Scott;
Well isn’t that enough? What the heck have the French or Germans done for us, other than sipping espresso and spouting politically-correct Bush-hatred while we provide a defense umbrella for them?
“Where were all the screams about no war for oil when Bush went into Iraq? Because you must admit, what other reason was there?”
bxgrl,
I don’t know what you are talking about.
I live in the present.
WAR FOR OIL!!!
WAR FOR OIL!!!
WAR FOR OIL!!!

legion- I hope you’re sitting down. I agree with your 4:36. 🙂
dibs- call it whatever you wish. It was a comparison. And if its a rant, it certainly is no different, and far less frequent than your daily Obama rants, so give it up.
‘” if McCain was doing what Obama is with Libya”
He wouldn’t. that’s our point. He’d actually take a stance, outline it and act.’
RIIGGGHHHTTTTT. Maybe the McCain of 20 years ago, but the guy who ran for president this last time was not that man. That McCain sold out to appease groups the old McCain would have told where to shove it. Therefore I hardly think anyone, let alone Armchair Warrior Dave, could predict what he would, or wouldn’t do.
All of you armchair warriors are really good at critiquing the president. Since we can’t even get reliable news out of the area, I hardly see how anyone can sit back and say what should and shouldn’t be done, none of us has the necessary information to do so.
omg- that I would find myself agreeing with benson and legion on a political issue. I feel faint 🙂

Looking back though my posts, I want to make is clear that I do not hate Israel.
I respect that they have maintained a democracy through decades of very difficult times when they were being attacked from outside and within.
While they are not perfect, I think they have treated the nations and people they defeated in war infinitely better than they would have been treated.
They have served as a check on extreme regimes in Iraq and Iran.
There have been times when they served the interests of the US Intelligence by doing “dirty work” that we could not do for diplomatic reasons.
I just don’t think they have earned or deserve the special relationship with the US that they have.
Israel is a result of the British Mandate & the Balfour Decision, not US policy.
