  1. The problem as outlined in the Times today is that many of the ME states are not “organic” – they’re arbitrarily created out of whole cloth & are composed of tribes that are hostile to each other. They’ve stayed stable by virtue of strong dictatorships. Some, such as Egypt & Tunis are historic & cohesive states & they will probably weather the current tumult intact.

  2. deton,
Is there anything in the OT?
We have a tough crowd here,
not a single laugh on my
    Trump for President joke:

    “You’re fired asswipe,
now eat a MOAB(Massive Ordinance Artillary Bomb)for breakfast”

  3. “In fact, I question what is the purpose of the military involvement at all if there is no end-game plan to support a new government that will be friendlier to us.”

here’s the issue…LARGELY, these people in these oil rich countries are uneducated. They are ruled by what is oftentimes a minority group and the rulers are despots at best. No one would care except for the fact that some of these countries hold large amounts of oil that the rest of the world needs. It is in our best interest to promote stability no matter what form it takes, otherwise global economics can turn topsy turvy.

When there’s unrest and an attack on the status quo which looks like it’s going to turn into a reduction in the flow of oil, then we have to step in, or someone does.

It’s very simplke. IT IS ABOUT OIL. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just naive.
