Moose are well adapted to their environment. Definitely an evolutionary success, at least for the moose themselves.
It’s wrong solely to think in terms of genetic mutation or “survival of the fittest.” Successful adaptation to environmental changes favors reproduction of those in a species with most favorable traits. Repetition over thousdands of generations can lead eventually to something that looks like a different species.
There was a great series on human evolution on PBS last fall, with a lot of updated knowledge.
jb — when my kid was in K or 1st grade, she asked how the first human child’s mother could understand what the child was saying if the mother was a monkey, Sometimes you can’t explain everything all at once, so don’t sweat that part of parenthood if you are eventually thinking of going that path.
Oh, and it’s pretty well-decided, I think, that the neanderthals were wiped out.
gem- evolution is not a belief, its a science. And yes- I have to honestly say your science education is lacking because you reject years of data, research and proof simply because you can’t understand how “goo” became, well, you. 🙂
Yet there is a real, scientific basis for the explanation. But just because you don’t know how it works, you’ve rejected it- that’s why I wonder how much science you got.

I tilt my head when I’m pouring beverages. I don’t know why but I do.

A wrong turn for evolution….

where’s rob?
bxgrl I don’t disagree with anything you said at 4:37.
That still doesn’t mean that the current best theories about the origins of life on Earth are fact.
It also doesn’t mean that we can say with any certainty whether or not there was any element of “design” in the development of life.
The first might be proven as more work is done.
I suspect the second will never be proven or disproven.
perhaps we (humans) or neanderthals killed off hominids – I theorize that neanderthals or humans mated with them creating subsets of early humans……
Dave, did he have short arms?
I worked with a Japanese guy once with really short arms.
He had to tilt to get money out of his pocket.
