  1. My daughter (now 15) and I used public transportation all the time when she was growing up (didn’t have a car from age 6 or 7 to almost 13, plus we always took the subway to school starting from when she was 3.5) and I tried to set a good example. I like to think that she is a good citizen when she is out on her own, but of course I don’t get to see her when she’s not with me. I do think she’s not a litterbug–I HATE THAT!

I get reports from her babysitting clients and the parents of her friends and other adults she interacts with that she is a great kid, very polite, responsible, blah blah blah. She’s not always so nice to me, but I’ve heard that’s a pretty common phenomenon.

  2. “That’s true Pete. Do we let airline passengers take turns flying the plane? Uh OK, then why the fuck should we let idiots off the street tell us how to run the country????”

    flying a plane requires skills.

    running a country? that’s questionable.

only skills i see our representatives have lately is lying and cruising craigslist for sex.

  3. “but it doesn’t make sense to care about them now.”

Why not, exactly? Are there “rules” regarding folks you once knew?

I do see your overall point JB, but again, I don’t think Facebook is responsible for making someone who is predisposed to narcissim any more likely engage in such behavior. I knew plenty of adults who were narracistic way before Facebook ever came along.

I agree w/Lechacal however that is is a democratizing force in today’s society.

  4. “you’re not a big fan of democracy anyway.”

That’s true Pete. Do we let airline passengers take turns flying the plane? Uh OK, then why the fuck should we let idiots off the street tell us how to run the country????
