A while ago I got a Linkedin “friend” request or whatever from someone and the only connection whatsoever I have with this person is we had sex once in law school. Business networking my ass.
I’m very leery of FB and it freaks me out to go to an unrelated website and see something there that I “Liked” it- when I did no such thing. I don’t like the over-connectedness (is this a word?) – it’s creepy.
Yay I’m starting to feel better now that those fucking antibiotics are getting out of my system. You remember in The Wall where he’s in the back of a limo and he’s all covered in cheesecloth and then he starts clawing at it and ripping it off and then he’s just sitting there? It’s sort of like that.
“They were denouncing the political correctness in which the West must always be in a position of apologizing for its sins, rather than celebrating the values that made it great.”
benson — my disagreement with you is that I think this is a straw man. We (the west, US, etc.) can celebrate our values and engage in healthy self-critique. Indeed, it is our commitment to democratic values that allows us to do both. It is a sign and show of strength, not weakness. As but one example, I think Tom Friedman pointed out recently as a factor giving rise to teh Egyptian protests that the Egyptian public may well have taken note of extensive regional coverage of Israel’s punishment of some corrupt elected leaders. It provided a positive example of the advantages of western-style democracy. Having a prez with the middle name Hussein doesn’t hurt in this regard, either, whatever you think of his actions and policies. The more we are able to live by and demonstrate our values, the less resonant the jihadist critique becomes to the Arab public at large.
The problem with Peter King’s approach is not that there are not extremists here. It’s that he’s using a backhoe, not a scalpel, to look for them.
exactly. when retired you don’t have to waste whole morning on internet to escape work.
Ugh Pete – I HATE when that happens – I guess just call and complain! but still it doesn’t bring back your morning

You’re retired.
what do I use for my ConEd search? My electrician told me they’d be here before 1PM.
I’ve wasted whole morning now.
Very nicely said, slopey.
