  1. ***** MONTERO’S *****

    Tomorrow, Friday, March 11th

    6-6:30ish – Who Knows

    Karaoke starts at 10p

For directions, see *rob*’s post in last night’s OT After Dark. (He & I did a little personality switch & my head still hurts.)

  2. I think a big piece of the political fight against unions is due to the fact that many states have mandatory unions for public workers, and most of those unions take employees dues and use it for political purposes.
There are theoretical ways around this, but for the most part that are ineffective, career inhibiting, or both.

I stray totally from the Democrats I tend to support on this topic. I think it is 100% wrong that someone is forced to monetarily support the political agenda of their union leadership in order to work in a government job.

It pisses me off that a portion of my family’s paycheck every month goes to support political agendas that we have no say over.

The retail prices in Park Slope are incredibly high, especially along 7th Avenue. The storefronts are also quite small, which is good because it limits the larger chains from coming in, but it’s bad because the spaces just aren’t quite large enough for most clothing stores.

What’s happening right now is the same thing that happens every single winter when stores don’t make it after the holidays and close up in January and February.

There are also A TON of new things opening in the Slope right now….Second Helpings space becoming a sit down Vietnamese restaurant…Lemongrass Grill which sucked is becoming a very tasty Spice Thai. Artesana combined with another store further down and is becoming a Bare Burger….the old liquor store on Flatbush near BKLYN Larder is becoming a 67 burger, there’s the freshly made yogurt place coming on 5th, there’s a brand new Colombian restaurant on 5th Avenue….lots and lots of new openings. Some I’ve been shocked how fast they have been re-rented.

The space where La Taqueria was is still for rent and Slope Sports is still for rent, although I saw people in there the other day doing something.

We already have a ton of stuff….4 gyms, 2 Union Markets, 2 Key Foods, a million specialty food stores…Grab, Blue Apron, Bierkraft, BKLYN larder, etc, a million restaurants and bars, American Apparel, garden store, etc. I think the problem is exactly what M4L says….what else do we need? Not much, you can live in Park Slope and never leave because pretty much everything is there. I would like to see a mens store, although there is amazing thrift store shopping on 5th with Beacons Closet, Odd Twin, Two Lovers, Guvnor’s and the new place on 13th and 5th Avenue which has tons of great stuff.
