legion- then you and I differ on why we believe corporations make contributions to particular candidates. I find it very hard to believe that a corporation will act in anything other than its own best interest, even if that interest runs counter to the greater good. It’s happened far too often.
DH – I have to admit, while I LOVE seeing a show at the bandshell in Prospect Park – a lot of the acts I don’t even know b/c they are too “world” music for me – and then of course the shows that you DO want to see often are benefit shows which cost you $25 – again not bad -but still – it’s nice to walk and take in a free show. I would die if Fleet Foxes came here to play a show or Avetts or Band Of Horses….
Williamsburg waterfront isn’t fun – I agree!
I’ve never seen a show at the Fort Greene park – is that a good place to see a show?
“BHS, the management should be properly trained to run the trains.
That’s how it works in the private sector.”
Sorry, I don’t buy that, at least not in numbers enough to keep the business running, especially the the case of a organization-wide strike that also impacts maintenance workers.
During the Malbone Street wreck in 1918, the operation of the subway was totally in the hands of a private company.
I worked for a natural gas pipeline and drilling company, and there is no way that the company could have kept running with management only.
“DH – did the bandshell announce their summer line-up already?”
they announced the “gala” (whatever that is) and the decemberists are playing a show
i really hope they don’t do shows at the williamsburg waterfront this year. the lineup is always great but that venue sucks balls. wouldn’t mind the commute to see better bands at a better venue.
bxgrl,
I don’t think that’s necessarily so.
Just think of all the billionaires who contribute regularly to Democratic campaigns.
You would think that billionaires would only support Republicans as that party has been tagged as the
“party for the wealthy”.
In reality I think that those with money and corporations as well make donations based on many factors and not just the bottom line.
You have to have trust in the people behind corporations as well.
RE: Wisconsin, I still haven’t heard anyone explain how the collective bargaining piece helps close the (somewhat manufactured in this case) budget deficit when the unions agreed to all the wage cuts and benefit contribution increases in the bill. That’s what unmasked this as a pure political power play as opposed to a legitimate budget issue. The public employee unions in WI have sacrificed a lot these last few years and agreed to do much more. That’s what makes Walker’s attack on collective bargaining rights gratuitous in this particular case, whatever you think of PE unions generally.

oh – I didn’t know Oshima was really good – I will have to order from them
11217 makes a valid point – I think 7th avenue closer to the Q train needs a good quality nail joint (maybe the old La Taquiera space) my nail salon in south slope on 7th and 14th is PACKED all the time – weekends, nights, during the day and it’s b/c it’s clean and friendly and sorta “posh” not ghetto at all
