I said I was raised Catholic, I didn’t say I was a practicing Catholic.

Also this discussion is not about one idea being better than another.

It is about applying the same standards across the board without regard for other factors, like politics.
I understand that you and bxgrl are not willing to do so as evidenced by your refusal to answer my simple proposition:

If one can be critical of Christian teachings that might be interpreted as subjugating women, should one be equally critical of Islamic teachings which seek to do this?

If your answer is YES,
then you must (by logic) condemn the Ground Zero Imam and others like him who seek to bring Sharia law to the United States.

Nor do I, and unless I’m mistaken, US law would not allow for it. But again, in the practice of religion, which is a right in this country, I believe US law can only prevail if members of the religious community refuse accept decisions of religious court. Which is why the use of religious laws are proscribed. Mormons, despite their religion are not allowed to have more than one wife, for example. You cannot sign away your basic constitutional rights, even if your religion seems to say you are not equal.

The French abolishing the Burka impinges on a Muslim woman’s right to practice her religion. If this law is truly about not subjecting women. The Othodox Jewish women in France should not have to shave their head and wear ulgy wigs.
