  1. “Manned space flight is almost entirely about national pride, and has been from the beginning.”

    BHS,
I like that the new passports have an image of Armstrong walking on the moon.
They’re really well done and have electronic encoding as well.

    Arkady,
I always wanted to be an astronaut too.
Disneyworld has a new ride called Mission: Space and while you wait in line you get to read about all the Astronauts and Cosmonauts,

…you also get to see kids projectile vomiting afterwards.

  2. To add to my post of manned space flight, I am not opposed to it. I think the intangible benefits in terms of national pride and inspiration are worth the costs.

I just don’t think you can justify it based on the direct benefits to science.

  3. The moon landing was in 1969 wasn’t it, the summer of Woodstock. I remember this woman I worked with (summer job at Chase). She was disappointed with the one small step for man comment, she wanted them to say something about legalizing pot.

  4. I think it’s impossible for people born after we reached the moon to imagine how magical it was. I wanted to be an astronaut before the word was coined. Spaceships circling to see the dark side were mind-blowing. Reaching the moon was an almost unimaginable feat.

  5. The head of American Apparel was all over the news last night. Some woman is suing him for sexual harrassment. To me she looked “borderline” as far as desirability to harrass.
