I’m not sure what to think about Apple. They are certainly on top of the world when it comes to high-margin consumer products.
However, they are also pissing off more and more of their partners every week.
Things will get really interesting when Jobs finally has to step down for real. I worry about any company that revolves around one person.
When Bill Gates stopped taking an active role in Microsoft, the company entered a decade long plateau that it still has not climbed out of, and they were much more diverse than Apple.
I don’t personally use any Apple products because I don’t think the design benefits are enough to overcome the higher price and lack of flexibility.
Btw, I hadn’t seen clips of Gaddafi in some time…and now I need verification that the plactic surgury ridden puppet is him. Holy cow and no offense to dictators everywhere!
bxgrl, hardware-only OEMs competing against apple is toast. Software-only will be toast if their hardware-only partners exit markets they no longer want to compete with apple. It’s great to be a consumer of electronics now. F’d if we in the electronic biz
No dice Biff. You don’t post political diatribes on the OT if you’re not prepared to support them. If you don’t want to argue about Chomsky, then don’t post his ramblings.
There is no point to anything Chomsky says. He’s good at recognizing obvious things about hue-mons and their institutions. He’s completely obsessed with pointing out pretty obvious things that relate to the U.S. government, but just like Marx he fails the “so what” test.
He’s sort of like a guy sitting at home drinking beer watching a football game on TV and pointing out why a sports star fumbled the ball. Um, OK you’re right, now grab another beer. No one who is playing can hear you, and nothing that you just said will change anything, and the game goes on.
“Is that written somewhere in the Brownstoner Posting Rules & Regulations? Did I somehow miss an OT ban on freedom of speech?”
No, Biff, freedom of speech is still alive and well in the OT.
And thanks for posting the Chomsky links – a good interview in which, as usual, he speaks the unspoken truth.
Make that “surgery”. Nothing surgury or sugary about Gaddafi.

M4L– did you read the article? It isn’t about the hardware or the software, but about the control Apple has over their product- even after you buy it.

Apparently, I just did. He doesn’t need my support and you don’t need to read the article.
