Thanks so much to all of you and your better halves for your emails, texts, posts and cards last week about CDog, not to mention the food, booze and flowers, all of which meant more to me than I can adequately express. The OT is truly an amazing community, and I am very grateful for the close friends I have made here. I am glad so many of you got to know CDog and to hang out with her, including at Montero’s (not kidding).
It was a very difficult decision to have to make and a rough week. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I am very sad and down over her loss. Intellectually, I know it was the right thing to do for her, but emotionally I was/am not ready. But, she was 16, with a life expectancy of 10-12, so I am very grateful for my many great years with her. By the end, I had lost all objectivity, but my sister, who was visiting from Texas (CDog was originally her dog), and my closest friends all told me it was time. Even the Vet said that I did 110% the right thing.
CDog really began to decline in mid-December, with her last couple of weeks being particularly bad. By the end, she had trouble getting up on her own, and trouble standing and walking for very long. And her kidneys were starting to fail and she was anemic. Still, she never lost her appetite – since she couldn’t stand for long, she couldn’t really eat from her bowl, so for her last 2 weeks I hand fed her bacon, egg & cheese sandwiches, boneless spare ribs, grilled chicken fingers and bacon double cheeseburgers. Appealing to my morbid sense of humor, a close friend said, at that rate, I wouldn’t have to put her down, as she would likely have a coronary first. 🙂 No worries, though, randi, as the Vet said to feed her anything she liked at that point.
I can’t begin to thank Biff enough for everything he did last week, from taking on the role as my “Family Spokesman†to passing on all your thoughts and good wishes and, most especially, for coming to the Vet with us and then taking me to Montero’s for drinks.
And special thanks again to Kens and DeLepp for putting up with my less than stellar mood on Thursday.
Finally, apologies to Pete for having to find someone else’s lost puppy posters to tear down along Smith Street.
We missed you, e-hubby.
Nice to have you back, CGar.

glad the rain stopped
I had my Honduran guy do that last week in Bucks, Pete.
thinking of going out to garden and raking/cleaning up. So I’ll use the OT to distract me from that thought

Not really wanting to wake up this morning.
