  1. “Okay, I’ll adjust my previous statements, society needs religion or strong family values in order to not turn into a ball of shit. ”

Who defines family values? As the Republicans define it, it certainly leaves out quite a few groups, including gays. In fact “family values” has been used to make outsiders of gays, and deprive women of their rights. Gem’s 3 C’s are exactly what society needs, and those values are much more pragmatic and positive than much of today’s so-called religious or family values.

  2. There are of course negative side effects of religion and people use it as justification to commit bad acts, but all in all, I think it keeps a society together. In fact, you all argue the same point when people call out fanatics of all religions – it’s you guys that say the everyday people that believe in religion are good people living by the book.

  3. “But Jessi, Arkady doesn’t have kids and she’s helped many who are not in her family. Likewise (just an example I can think of on the OT) Cobble. Social values are not just family values.”

Ha, you’re acting like I’m some untamed beast! I live my life according to the basic religious tenets as well. My initial point was only this, a nation full of confused and unhinged people (even if their still living a basically moral life) are gonna have more problems in the long run than one where the people have faith. This is because they would be more susceptible to thinking life was pointless. The atheists people have to try where the believers don’t have to think as hard to get there.
