I always fought against HR on the credit issues. In the case of the contractor we got him to explain and document his situation, and ended up hiring him after 6 weeks or so.
In cases of totally new hires, it usually did not go anywhere.

Again, I stand by my belief that if a job gives access to client funds, you don’t want someone with a rough credit history in that position.
