  1. THINGS ARE ABOUT TO TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSE IN IRAN. They had opposition leaders Karrubi & Mousavi (who lost to Ahmadinejhad in the election) under forced seclusion at home but they just transfered them to prison.

  2. I’m with DIBS on not trusting gov with more of my money via higher taxes. that goes for Repub or Dem in office. as I said often, politicians are not high on my list of high integrity folks

  3. BHS – agreed. I often think that the entire tax law needs to be revamped and that at least a PART of EVERY americans contribution into the pot should be dictated by that American in a check box per year. You want 10% of your tax money to go to defense, click X, you want 10% of your tax money to go to welfare – click Y and so on….. – or maybe just at the state level we could choose what 10% of our tax money could go to….
Unfortunately here in the states the word “TAX” is a very bad word and like I said – it’s disgraceful that we don’t want to pay into the pot to help us ALL out…..

  4. I am against the war, but I think bring it into budget discussions misses the point of large increases in state and local spending, as well as federal domestic and non-war DOD spending.

  5. The more money you give to the government, the more ways they find to waste it. Giving money to the government is not an efficient way have money work efficiently.

Why has spending ballooned to such a high % of GDP after GDP has grown so much over the past 10, 15, 20 years. it’s absolutely ridiculous.

If you want to give more money to the government, be my guest. you’re certainly in the minority though, as we found out in last november elections.

  6. gemini10, I agree with you with the caveat that I would like to also make sure that the government is spending our money in a reasonable manner for the betterment of the people who most need the help.

  7. dibs- I think he got the message just fine and I think the Republicans will overstep yet again, as they always have in the past. Which is why Obama was elected. The electorate also spoke when we elected him- but the republicans don’t seem to care about that.

  8. Yep, the increases in government spending are huge but just about any measure, but especially per employee.

Even leaving out the stimulus starting in 2009, spending as a percent of GDP went from 32% in 2000 to 36% in 2008.
