“Bxgrl, you are the reigning queen of bad choices.”
DCB, I think a statement like that, about someone you don’t know, and know nothing about, is really out of line. You can disagree with someone’s sentiments without being disagreeable. Now, when Bxgrl fires back, and trust me, she will, you’ll say she is launching an ad hominem attack. You threw the first punch.
“Bxgrl, you are the reigning queen of bad choices.
Anyone who follows your ideas will be poor forever.
And I am not a televangelist. Nor am I selling anything.”
Really? You know nothing about my life or me- You have no idea what I’ve been through or what I am doing so please, save the personal insult garbage for those who think you have something intelligent to say.Otherwise you’re just another ignorant schmuck who pedals tripe.
DCB, I never said it was impossible to escape poverty. It’s done every day. And yeah, it takes sacrifice, hard work, and an internal drive to succeed and better oneself. No doubt about it. I live by that, and am eternally grateful for my opportunities and chances in life.
HOWEVER, not everyone can do it. Sometimes for reasons that are good, sometimes not. For those who are busting their butts doing everything within their power to exist in a legal and lawful manner within this society, but cannot get past the real pitfalls of their station in life, I am not going to sit on my high perch and dictate their choices. There is NO level playing field, everyone is NOT equal in background, education, opportunities, talent or smarts. It is not merely a simple choice to lift oneself out of poverty. It’s much more complicated than that. For those who are trying – taking classes, working two or more jobs, doing whatever they can to better their lives, I think we need to applaud, and support, at least by assuring that they can have healthy and nutritious food for themselves and their families.
I think there is a notion by those much better off, that poor people enjoy being poor, and if only they’d get off their lazy asses, the world would open up for them. Sadly, that is not true.
a bottle of vinegar and 2 loaves of break could theoretically last you an entire month. humans dont really have to eat three meals a day, you can get by on just one. get the cheap bread, 99 cent loaves… and a bottle of vinegar is what 3 dollars? so for 5 dollars you have an entire month’s worth of food. that comes out to about 17 cents a day.

M4L- I don’t have utter disgust for being poor- I hate it but I grew up poor, but rich in family. I never felt poor because my family never let it keep them down. Went to good schools, great college- had a lot of things going right. Made really good money and then it all crashed down. You can plan all you want- sometimes you don’t see life coming. My guess is you weren’t poor in family and values either, otherwise you wouldn’t be the successful person you are today..
rob – I am pretty sure you realize that vinegar & white bread isn’t healthful for you & especially not for children.

Chorizo and brown rice with vegetables for lunch, with a jug of milk.
