Agreed on The Color Purple. I never bought the dvd because I just can’t put myself through the days of crying that follow watching that movie. It’s also the only movie I’ve ever seen that was as good as the book.
And Gemini – Office Space rules! Sometimes I just put in the dvd and watch the beginning where he’s rapping in the car and then go straight to the scene where they trash the machine in the field.
Shindler’s List and The Color Purple are two excellent movies that I can’t watch too often. Both are extremely painful, very powerful, and show the best and worst of humanity in unforgettable ways. Whenever I see either one, I can’t sleep that night, some scenes just replay in my head over and over again. Spielberg took a lot of heat on both films for different reasons, but both are filmmaking at its powerful best.
Oh crap- and every movie on MM’s list.
And yes, Empire of the Sun was just totally amazing. My favorite scene (which also had me weeping for days) was the one where they look up and see the light from the Atom Bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
OMG insertsnappy – that part makes me laugh out loud

O.k….what’s you favorite movie set? Who’s home do you want or has left an imprint on you?
For me it’s Auntie Mame’s house. The way it was decorated in ever changing themes was magical to me as a kid.

The Last Emperor was a great film too.
I haven’t seen a lot of the movies listed…looks like I’ll be busy next weekend. (Thank heaven for online free movie sites!)
