benson, The non-profit org that I do work with files short form. We do it ourselves. It involves sending/filing a postcard saying that we are not required to file the long form. (Ridiculous, I know.) Then we file the short form. Bing bang done!
I loved art classes, I still love art. It’s always fascinating to see what people create, the techniques they use, the medium they choose, how they interpret things. I don’t always like art that’s meant to shock, but I’m sure that surprises no one here!
We are tax-exempt too, as the organization is church-affiliated too. $1500 for an audit strikes me as reasonable, as it involves a good deal of preparation. $950 for filing short forms does not.
Sorry benson, don’t know. My organization (Church) was tax exempt. We had a couple of fights with the IRS over aspects that they said were not exempt, but managed to address all of them.
We had to have an annual audit, which cost around $1500-2000 if I recall.
Oddly enough, Spencer’s painting “Burners” from 1940 reminds me of Chagall. His work is fabulous. Rockwell- I recognize his draughtmanship and humor but he still leaves me cold. Don’t know why. But I love illustration- NC Wyeth is one of my favorites, as is Rockwell Kent. Illustration is as much art to me as a Chagall.

Etson;

There are few spheres of modern life that are as monolithic in their thinking as the modern art world.
the only A I EVER received in college was Art History- I loved that class!

“Since we are a small organization, he filed a short form (a 990-EZ), yet he charged $950. ”
Sounds ridiculous. My accountant charges me $300, and he has to fill out 3 or 4 forms for me. It takes him all of 30 minutes to do it.

Oy, lech. I know you’re just saying this/decoration to get my goat. I’m gonna just let this go.
