    Rf;

    I do not think it was an appropriate remark.

    Nor do I think it is appropriate to use the remark to try to smear Christians.

    I think the same.

  2. Legion, that is a tough job. I recently helped to close up the beach house that my parents have been going to for 25 years. Wow. Getting them to make decisions was hard. My mother, not so much. But my father?, big time.

    Benson, rural storage units may be due to foreclosures and the need to move to smaller places until people can rescue their belongings or as people regroup to form larger households, living with relatives due to bad economic times– WORSE in rural areas.

    In the suburban areas I have lived, it is rare for a garage to used as a place to park a car.
    Instead, they are used for storage.”

    Scott;

    My brother lives in an affluent suburb in northern New Jersey. From what I can see, many homes have three or four cars, especially those with older kids. As you state, nobody parks their cars in the garage: they are stuffed with bikes, kayaks, toys, etc.

    Folks there spend a small fortune on their home’s appearance, including landscaping, cedar siding, etc. No one seems to notice that the appearance of the house is marred by all of the cars parked in the driveway.

  4. Hello everyone,

    re: stuff

    I just came back from Florida where I’m still taking care of things following my mom’s death.
    I have to say, it is depressing in some of these areas where older folks live in large numbers.
    There are thrift stores and salvation army stores everywhere with the accumulated memories of so many lives.
    I’ve been trying to de-clutter my dad’s home and a small condo he owns and is basically using as a storage area.

    I can see how difficult it is to depart with things that have a unique memory or sentiment attached.

    …the overwhelming weight of nostalgia.
