Now, he is entitled to his faith, his beliefs on who he considers his brothers and sisters, and why. He needs to keep them to himself when he is acting as a public official. Declarations like that serve no useful purpose at all, except to make enemies and make people who don’t share his beliefs nervous. As they should be.
The separation of church and state exists for just this reason. As objectors to his statement say in the article, he’s basically telling people that Christians will be more important to him than other people. Actually, it’s not even Christians, it’s evangelical Christians, a subset of the Christian population. Many denominations do not insist that one has to declare that one is “saved” or has “accepted Christ”, and then run around trying to “save” people in order to be a Christian. So he’s really only talking about his brothers and sisters who meet his narrow criteria, shaving the numbers down even farther.
Jester is right, people like this do more harm to Christianity in their zealotry than good. He crossed a big line with that speech. Those remarks do not belong in the political and public sphere.
I posted on the shooting thread. I am actually very sympathetic to the Principal of Bishop Laughlin now. I understand what happened now and what they/the neighborhood has to deal with. I think they need to work with NYPD to get an outside presence to discourage loitering outside. Not Homeland security. Just NYPD eyes outside the school.

What kind of boat, Benson?
I keep toying with the idea of buying a boat. It would give me a thrill similiar to that which Lech described when he is on his land.
Then the “sensible” part of me keeps coming back to the old joke about the two happiest days in a boat owner’s life.
Here’s a pic, ET….

“bead blaster”
I’m curious to know what this is but since DIBS owns it maybe I really don’t want to know.
