yes guns are fun when youre shooting cans, plastic clown heads, (maybe hunting i guess), but when youre shooting at people it’s sociopathic, even psychopathic.
Yes, my comment was more to denton’s ‘no jobs’ rather than to the attractiveness of the jobs that there are. I don’t think there are enough of those jobs to get unemployment down to zero.
As for the janitor vs black market, I’d still take the janitor job, but I guess there are degrees of black market. Not sure I’d have a problem selling fake watches, but I would with mugging or burgling etc.

But more to my point, do those jobs appeal to you? Well, most on the list don’t appeal to me. If you told me my choice was between janitor for $8 an hour or the black market, I’d have to think about it.
well that’s the problem… i guess to many people feel they are above jobs like that. ah well. and most janitors make well over 8 dollars an hour.
“ security, janitorial, daycare, dog walking, cashier, bike messenger, bouncer, club promotor, bartender, etc etcâ€
OK – Etson’s comment notwithstanding, I doubt there are enough of these jobs to go around if everyone who was unemployed wanted to do this. But more to my point, do those jobs appeal to you? Well, most on the list don’t appeal to me. If you told me my choice was between janitor for $8 an hour or the black market, I’d have to think about it.
Heather, the Precinct called me back too and said that if I wanted to go in to see the Captain this evening I could since they had cancelled the Community Board meeting tonight. The only thing is that I didn’t even know it was tonight originally and am locked into something. They said that they would try to get something together for the neighborhood soon.
The Principal was great. They are all very concerned and trying to find out what happened, i.e. who specifically was responsible and I am guessing that the shootees are not giving any information. They HAD a cop there which the principal says is why they had such a fast response. But only one and the cop was in the auditorium at the time of the shooting. The Principal says that basketball is really big in Brooklyn and brings out so many kids that it is a place where the sheer number of kids can bring outside troubles into the venue. He seemed to be really concerned about getting through the basketball season which is important to the students without any more of this shit.
He also agreed to meet with me and/or neighbors together.
Finishing high school is their own choice.
Obvs wasn’t meaning higher end professional jobs but there always seems to be a lot of hiring for retail, medical assistants, office staff etc.
Can’t walk down 5th or 7th on a weekend without seeing several help wanted ads.

Etson, I hear ya, better to not be involved in violent crime, but I guess the guns just come into it somehow. I mean, even Nicholas Kristoff said guns are fun.

Okay, what job are you supposed to get in NYC if you haven’t finished high school?

Mine, obviously.
