  1. “have you ever walked on Nostrand Ave or Fulton St?”

Or been in a NYC subway station?

Most visitors I’ve been with in the subway are taken aback by how grimy most of them are.

  2. I had the experience of going to a conference/trade show in NOLA with young male staff who reported to me. I remember praying that they all made it on the airplane going back in one piece – that no one landed in jail, got stabbed (looking for authentic off the beaten tracks examples of local ambiance), or wound up in the hospital. Except for some lateness at the show due to being out all night, they all made it back ok to my relief.

It always seemed to me that people went to NOLA to go to hell with themselves, i.e. getting emergency room drunk.

Not to be a total party pooper, I did enjoy the restaurant NOLA down there — wonder if it is still good. Also, mentioned here once, love Cafe du Monde and really enjoyed going to the antique stores and the Friends of the Cabildo tour of the French Quarter. Also, one of my favorite mystery writers of all time, James Lee Burke, writes detective stories set down there, which are great, featuring the beat up, soulful, recovering alcoholic detective, Dave Robicheaux.

  3. “We’ll have to agree to disagree. I am familiar with many parts of Brooklyn, and my comments regarding NOLA stand.”

i don’t doubt you encountered a dusty antiques store (ha)

  4. “The ignorance of this statement should call into question whether he’s fit to be a senator.”

dibs, we likely came to this conclusion for different reasons. What I like about strong competent leaders is their ability to defer to others who are experts in a particular field. Schumer is a Harvard JD who has never practiced law, worked in finance, and is certainly no economist or monetary expert. We have no shortage of qualified and respected experts on the subject that he could have consulted before making such a ridiculous statement.

  5. “haha – i was on magazine street! (had to go to the doctor, don’t ask) – really cool over there, lots of old industrial buildings mixed in with the nice houses.”

    sorry, not Magazine Street.
They live off St. Charles St. Ave. in the Garden District.
There are no industrial buildings where they are. Just those big ass southern houses I crave.

  6. “You mean Christie was the first person ever to try and run a fiscally responsible government? ”

In the mid-Atlantic states? Yes, he has been the first fiscally-responsible governor since the 1970’s.
