  1. I think New Orleans in the winter and Quebec City in the summer sounds great. I have a couple of friends in NO, who tell me that living there in the summer is absolutely horrible. The humidity and heat is worse than the worst NYC summer day, and unlike here, where it breaks after a while, it goes on ALLLLLLL summer.

It’s a wonder people survived the 18th, 19th, and early 20th century there. The wealthy always got out and spent summers elsewhere.

That said, NO is one of the few places in the deep south I’d be interested in visiting, Savannah and Charleston being the others.

  2. One of the distinctions that NYC has is that it has had its subway system for 100+ years. It also runs 24/7. Tokyo has pretty much had its since the 1960s and shuts down at midnight. China built its last year.

  3. i wonder why i dont see nyc as being as dirty as some of you are saying. cuz honestly i find most things gross in general. maybe cuz im not well travelled? eh, i shouldnt really be questioning this cuz i dont need any OCD kicking in..

  4. Well, Fulton Street is an alternate universe with black stalagtites and rats and black rivers with garbage between the tracks and the worst of the subway musicians. This is definately not for the I love NY posters. They are trying to do something to make that station 2nd world worthy. I use Jay Street as my inspiration that the MTA is capable of upgrading the stations.

  5. I wouldn’t go THAT far ET. I think Park Ave is generally a very pretty street to stroll down. So are Madison and 5th on the UES. Once you hit 59th st all bets are off though. There are also lots of smaller tree lined streets and Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx that are lovely in the spring and summer. It’s just that this place is totally gross over all. Not even Shanghai is this disgusting and their population density makes NYC look like a suburban oasis.

  6. Ringo!!!

    Where you been???

I posted to you here over the holidays about an email I receieved from you. Someone apparently hijacked your email account. I got an email purporting to be from you, apologizing. Don’t know if it was really from you, or from the hijacker though.

  7. really? where are these people from? im just curious. i mean the subway stations do look a tad grimey, but i think the trains are relatively well maintained and clean for the most part. with the amount of passengers our subways get i dont think it’s feasibly possible to expect anything immaculate.

How would you know? You’ve never been to another city to experience it. As far as I know, the Internet still does not have a scratch and sniff app.

As far as the amount of passengers, Tokyo has far more and it’s pristine.
