“Distinction for the sake of distinction. It’s a basic law of human nature. When humans want a lot of something, they will come up with lots of arbitrary sub-categories and then some humans will declare themselves experts on the subcategories.”
well, considering scotch has been made since, what, the 1200s and the distinctions are due to what part of the country the scotch is made in (varying levels of peat in the soil) causing a much different flavor – i tend to disagree with u.
Legion, my bigger takeaway from the article is not even so much as a Democrat vs. Republican issue. As I’ve mentioned many times before, the two big parties are hardly as different as people like to believe. It’s about large corporations and the media elite controlling what we see and hear. The media is controlled by an alarmingly small group, which undeniably has their own corporate interests to protect. And it’s in their interest for the public to perceive there’s a left-wing slant because then when they read and hear the news, they’ll believe the limits of liberal thinking is what they read in the New York Times and this will stifle the attempts to think and act beyond that.
Ok, now I’ll join the chorus of those steering clear of the politics today. It’s the Friday of a long weekend, sunny out and, in the words of James Brown…I feel good.
“scotch is foreign to me – so many different varieties (highlands, lowlands, islay, blends)”

Happens with pretty much any consumer product or activity that people spend real money on.
I have made a deliberate attempt throughout my life to not develop a test for expensive alcohol.
I mostly range along the Even Williams – Jack Daniels – Crown Royal scale.
That way, I can save my money to spend it on more alcohol.

Mr. B.?
There’s an awful lot of “I just want to say this one political thing but let’s not talk politics today” going on today.
