BHS;
Your wife is correct. Legally the owners have a right to access a dish. I would recommend that your condo consider the installation of a common dish. If they do so, then it has the right to restrict individual owners from putting one up on their terrace.
Benson, honestly I never really thought about the dishes. We don’t watch TV, so it was not an issue that directly impacted me. I think there are 2 or 3 mounted on the railings facing Atlantic.
My guess is that the builder was just too cheap to run the coax cables for a common dish, and now that the building is finished it would be too much money/trouble to do it now.
I do know from my wife’s experience serving on our condo board in Los Angeles that there are laws that protect the right of occupants to put up the dishes.
Wasder, yes Obama stepped up to the moment and gave a wonderful speech (I assume; I wasn’t able to catch it), but he also doesn’t have an entire fringe trying to use the shooting for their own political purposes.
A better comparison is how Obama reacts to “birthers” as compared to how Palin reacted to the people who tried to make hay out of the Giffords shooting. Almost exact parallels IMO.
Palin did not put herself into this scuffle. A bunch of people who hate her anyways immediately tried to tie her map with cross-hairs to the Gifford shooting, totally inappropriately (there were lots of other cross hairs, and what do fucking idiots think, she was calling for assasination???). So Palin defended herself in her over-the-top way, and here we are. If there is some kind of historical nuance to the meaning of “blood libel” (haven’t read any of the posts on the topic) I’m sure she and / or her speech writer didn’t understand it.
Seriously, just STFU about Palin and the Giffords thing already. Trying to hitch Palin hate to the Giffords thing has about the same rhetorical strength as the birther movement or calling Obama a muslim. It’s a bunch of idiot haters desperate for any way to make their opponent look bad. And it’s really gross to use the shooting in this way. Just give it a rest.
Like Benson said yesterday, maybe a contest of ideas would be nice for a change instead of the same regurgitated wild-eyed statements about her that gets played over and over and over.
I know the building in which you live, based upon the previous discussion of the mosque, etc. You know what I don’t understand about your building? How they allow those DirectTV dishes to be mounted on the terrace railing. Looks so unsightly.
I live in a new condo too, and it does not allow this. When our builder put it up, he mounted a common dish for all on the roof.
360 degree reviews. Where people are reviewed by their peers and juniors as well as bosses. Someone just suggested it at my work. Horrible, bureaucratic idea.

I love the planes over the slope.

“What does this phrase mean? I’ve never heard it before.”
lots of places do “360 degree reviews” where you review your bosses/peers/subordinates as part of the year end process.
