  1. I haven’t read all your OT After Dark posts (cuz you people are too damn long-winded) but Legion’s 6:40pm post is spot on to me, as a student of European History from the French Revolution throught the Fall of the Soviet Bloc.

  2. quote:
    from the closing bell thread

“A menagerie of creative entrepreneurs occupies the seven-story building, including biotechnologists, ecologically minded architects, organic fashion designers and even miniature-cupcake makers. Most came in search of cheap rent — which runs to around $400 per desk per month — and a place to hatch their startups.”

  3. Goodness, cobble is grinchy this evening 🙂

And I certainly don’t want to bust your bubble but who do you think gave Elfie the idea to go union? Yes- you guessed it- Gnorman. gnot so wonderful gnow, is he?

  4. I used that cut off date because Legion chose WWII as the time we “saved” them.

    MM,
I don’t mean “saved” in the spiritual sense, that’s for God or the higher powers to discern.
I mean in practical terms that if the US did not push from the West, Germany’s army would most definitely have marched into London or simply continued bombing the British without mercy.
As it turns out, the combination of the Russians throwing everything they had at the German army (Stalingrad) while the Americans with the British and Canadians and others boxed them in, was enough to finally defeat them. Only the US had the troop numbers, the logistical abilities and the manufacturing base to implement Operation Overlord.
The German army was divided in half, and even then we only barely defeated them. But that’s neither here nor there.
I also already mentioned that the British were exceptional in their way during the Pax Britanica.
Why go on denying that there are periods in which certain nations have great influence on the world at large.

“Long story long, all of these countries are thriving because their people have as much pride and gumption as we do. We lead because of a lot of reasons, size, national wealth, military might being but a few. We don’t lead because we are more exceptional than they are.”

    again MM,
you deny the very real influence that the US has had on the lives and the course of these nation’s history. Certainly the US learned much from studying others and standing on the shoulders of giants before them, all great nations have. Of course all these nations have a great history and culture and influence of their own. They’re just not as influential as the US is today.
