rf, sorry to hear. Since all these are teachable moments, remind her next time to get description of car, driver, plate, and to call the cops from cell or nearest phone or ask bystander to do so.
@11:33, remember most cops live in the burbs and think cars are king.
79th. We live in that precinct. The house is on Tompkins Ave., just past Tompkins Park. They are much more aggressive than the 88 where we used to live–more sirens and crazy driving.
I called to make sure the corner of NY Ave. and Fulton was still in the 79; thought it might be the 77 at NY Ave. and Empire Blvd. But it is the 79. And yes, bfarwell, that is a crazy corner. That’s why I want to report it, in case they are collecting statistics to improve the safety there. We’ll go by the corner before going to the precinct so my daughter can explain to me exactly how it happened. She was walking from the subway. She has been walking on Fulton St. because although it’s a little further that way (we live on Marcy a few blocks up) because of the angle of Fulton and the sort-of parallel streets, there’s more traffic and it seems safer.
They better not accuse her of any crimes, or civilian complaint board, here we come!
The night of the big snow storm….I was driving home….nervous as a cat after driving from SI…..on Vanderbilt bet Atlantic and Fulton…two kids throwing a football…kid #1 slips in the road and thinks it will be fun to just lay there in the way of on coming cars.
Some kids’ guardian angels have to work overtime. The car in front of me managed to slow down and drive around him.
I, of course, had to roll down the window and say something to the kid. He told me to STFU. At least he was alive. Jerk.
Hey, is there some website I can use to figure out when my building has trash pickup? I want to take the tree out, but running downstairs every morning to see if the bags are out is a pain in the ass.
rf, I think that your daughter should file a report as crazy as that sounds now and call 311 to find out how. I think that the local precincts phones are being answered by the bottom of the barrel. At least 311 people know procedures.
the precinct said she left the scene of a crime? WTF? what precinct? i recently discovered i’m actually in the 79th, even though i’d always thought i was 88.
