As a person who works in the business development organization of a major Japanese firm, I have to agree with alot of what Kens, Legion and Gem have said re: creativity in the US.
Moreover, I am less optimistic about China’s prospects than Japan’s. China has been riding up the same curve that Japan did 30 years ago: cheap manufacturing. However, despite China’s success at doing that, they have yet to do what the Japanese and Koreans have done: create brands that consumers can trust for quality, service, value, etc. Can anyone here name 3 Chinese brands that are well-known to Americans?
These days the big money is not in manufacturing, but on the steps above that: design, software, branding, sales and distribution, etc. If anybody doesn’t believe that, look no further than the IPAD. Probably $20 of the price goes to the actual manufacturer (FoxConn). The rest goes for Apple’s creativity.
Yes, the brownstoner clock IS 3 minutes ahead of the world.
TextperV, isn’t it 5 more minutes from your post?
“I love cheez whiz. come on.”
From what part of the cheese is the “whiz” derived?
Why is the brownstoner ‘clock’ 2 minutes ahead of mine? Raunch hour is going to start on here earlier than on my end.
