  1. “the only people who like Chinese music are the Chinese!”

You’re speaking from a western ,music marketing standpoint that caters to a certain demographic and that’s certainly a valid viewpoint under those circumstances. But to say only Chinese like Chinese music is to ignore the thousands of musicians, folklorists, and aficionados of Chinese culture who do appreciate it and sounds somewhat insulting.

as far as album sales, it’s very easy to see Chinese stars one day soon be the global sales leaders. if you think of the Asian mkt (china, taiwan, singapore, malaysia,…), a sizeable share in those places = tons of albums/songs sold. completely diff when discussing how broadly (geographically) the sales

-that’s only if they start making music that appeals to all. Also not sure Chinese music will take off anyway but Asia….

But mostly I just gave her advice about how the home life matters a lot and she obviously cared since she was already searching and that was a positive, “you have plenty of time to research this, just start here and keep going.”

I highly doubt they have sales in other countries, esp their neighbors…
I wish I still worked at XX company b/c I would pull global sales on all the Chinese megastars or even Chinese Indie darlings to show they don’t have sales in other countries.
Trust me I have tried to break Japanese musicians here – it doesnt work
hell even their biggest act Utada Hikaru was a HUGE priority on a competitive label who actually can sing(in a pop vein) but she fell flat here and in other Western countries…. so it was a flop!
    maybe it will change…

  7. I didn’t even realize that that was where we were going — till you gave me the rec, dh. I went back and checked the email. She is the general counsel now of Blue Hill Group which owns this restaurant and others.

So I am thinking that A Voce looks good for my evening with my friend taking me out. I’ll ask him to choose between that and Little Owl.
