  1. Re Japan/China — I think the size, history and deep consciousness of its own culture always made China think that they WERE the world. What’s to conquer? The characters mean literally center of the world.

    M4L, thanks for spareing me.

  2. The Japanese Empire actually lasted a lot longer than WWII – began around 1931, I believe, with the invasion of Manchuria. Extended well into China, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and most of the islands of the Western Pacific. They didn’t make it to Australia, but they did manage to capture a few of the Aleutian Islands from us.

  3. MM, not appropriate to wear that fany robe when the emperor is powering down trays of delish brownies from CGar. Here, have a brownie and just bow. drop by later as I need to commission you with very flattering write-ups of my people’s greatness

  4. But, jackal, isn’t she also letting you play lumberjack on your land in Mass, where you’ll relive your days eating squirrel and wearing nothing but squirrel-skin loin cloths???

    🙂
