Are you all aware of the American Girl phenomenon? Dolls, books, stores, etc? It’s huge right now. Liek Cabbage Patch dolls in the 80s but bigger. Anyways, for xmas my in-laws bought my daughter the Rebecca doll and a Rebecca book. Rebecca is the jewish immigrant girl who lives in Brooklyn.
Turns out the book is all about money, which I thought was a little…. I don’t know, maybe just not the right message for the one American Girl book where the girl is jewish. The plot involves her thinking up ways to get more money, and then getting it. Weird, right?
I have a car that I rarely use. And, even when I used it regularly, it was rarely in the City, but almost always to go to Connecticut to see my family.
DH, agreed. I’ve survived almost 14 years in New York without a car and with 2 kids. People lose use of their car for one or two days and think it’s the end of the world.
“Bike Lanes declared safe haven for geese.”
Makes sense since the car lanes are full of turkeys.

“There are a lot of annoying hue-mons on bikes. On the other hand, a bike is like a popsicle stick for a hue-mon snack.”
you have a car because you created hue-mons
The ones in Kaifeng were merchants who traveled the Silk Road and settled there.

“There was a substantial Jewish community in China before Mao.”
Yep. A lot of Jews who fled the Nazis made their way to China. I believe Shanghai had the largest population of European Jews.
