  1. Bedstuy – wow, so that kid got 3 years for just having a joint? when was that? am sorry he went through that!
according to my husband they are much more lenient with folks who might have a joint or a bag of weed and the cops might give you a summons or leave you alone….

  2. dibs – haaaa -true
Ishtar – true, but am glad he got it all on tape so the owner of the bashed up car has all the proof he needs to get all the damages paid for by DOS! – eeks – watching the video in full was bad

  3. quote:
If the guy doing the taping could have done better, why not put some clothes on and go help instead of watching a car get “destroyed”?

cuz he knew he was getting his 15 seconds? hells, you dont get 15 minutes anymore, so everyone scrambles for their 15 second and he got it!

BINGO! and who does that eventually really screw over? my uncle was in prison many many many times and my grandparents bailed him out whenever they could, paid the fines, paid for lawyers (i think paid for lawyers but not 100 percent certain about that) but it still came down to 1000s of dollars all the time, that eh, could have gone to better things? the problems with making mistakes in life is that it snowballs and you have the potential to bring down a ton of other people with you. if my uncle would have been thrown away to begin with and not given 453589 other second chances, perhaps things would have been better for my grandparents (and me). but that’s a horrible way of looking at life i guess.

i think people from birth should get three strikes. you are allowed only ONE time to violate any of the following and get away scott(scotch?)free with it.

    1.) fashion
    2.) drugs
    3.) cars/housing/food

  5. Gem -three years. He is still trying to get back on track. Did not finish college, had a very negative out-look and a defeatise attitude. Luckly, he met a nice girl and the relationship is bringing him around.

  6. damn, donna, that story sounds horrible. did she go and sell her story to The Office? (that really dumb tv show? cuz i swear i just saw something like that, but totally watered down…) if people put as much effort into tuning up their psychic and intuitive skills as they do at the gym and searching out the next greatest wine bar or whole foods, they would be a much better situation in life. know thine enemy, and he’s not serving you 20 dollar glasses of wine…

  7. “Most criminals in jail are for drugs and the Rockefeller laws in NY sent hundreds of people to jail. While some did deserve jail time, some did not. I know a woman whose son did time for possession or marijuana after a traffic stop. He was in college at the time. This kid is black, he had a joint in his pocket. The owner of the car (a white kid) had an ounce of weed in his trunk, no jail time.”

It’s silly to send most people to jail for possession. It’s a waste of time and money.

I’m also thinking this young man didn’t have the necessary resources to avoid jail (I’m not getting into how the criminal justice system doesn’t provide much justice). I only say this because my sister has had enough run ins with the law to land her in jail for a quite a few years, but she’s never gotten more than a slap on the wrist (community service) because my parents could afford to keep her out of jail.
