  1. Rob, natives might not respect your gangsta but they’ll respect your Pitt – as long as you dont put some foo foo pink thingie on him. you’ll be fine in the hood with your pitt alongside

  2. Dona, Nelson Atkins is great.

And that Chinese restaurant is around the corner from my favorite Chinese place in the KC.

We always go to the Plaza b/c a friend owns a luggage store down there and we go to visit her.

  3. “i’ve never made a roast before. seems kinda scary.”

What’s the problem, DH? You just gather a bunch of has-been Borscht Belt comedians in the ballroom of a Hilton, and you’re good to go.

    Oh, you silly little boy.

Here is an easy one to try – I used to always make this when I was single and living alone.

1 pork tenderloin roast (about 1 1/2 lbs.)
    Garlic powder
    Black pepper
    Powdered rosemary

Rub roast generously with garlic powder, black pepper, and rosemary. Place roast covered pan. Roast at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

So simple, but it comes out quite savory. Throw half in the freezer (you can get 4-6 meals out of this), eat some with a veggie for your dinner, take some to work the next day for lunch.

  5. Also, here are other fun things that I did in Kansas City that were fun if you are going crazy…

    1) Antiques mall on 83rd and Mission Road. It is a wonderland of interesting and cool stuff. Not too expensive either. It would be the Brownstoner Flea if that was any good.

There is an amazing Cafe inside of that place too. Cheap and delicious. I forgot the name of it. I had this sandwich which was amazing:

    whole grain bread
    honey mustard
    thin slice of brie
    slice of pear
    turkey
    lettuce

    Orange ginger soup

    2) Nelson Atkins Museum. They have a world class Chinese art collection. Go to the temple room on 2nd floor. Knock your socks off Tang dynasty ceramic horses among other great stuff, paintings, sculptures, etc.

    3) Jazz museum and American Negro baseball museum on Vine, sort of east check the address.

    4) Gates Barbeque on Main and 31st I think (check it out). It is the best BBQ on the planet. (This is why KC people are fat, the BBQ. Soooooooo good)

    ******other advice*****

STAY AWAY FROM THE PLAZA, STAY AWAY FROM THE PLAZA STAY AWAY FROM THE PLAZA

At the Brownstoner Christmas Party, do you remember I was telling you about a GREAT restaurant I went to in Kansas City? At the end of Oct, I was there for a biz trip and stayed the weekend to see friends.

Anyhooo….I had fabulous Chinese food there at a place called Po’s Dumpling Bar. It is run by a retired Taiwanese couple and the food is off the chart’s good. They specialize in noodle dishes and dumplings and I couldn’t believe it. Decor and ambiance….no frou frou but nice enough. Food awesome.

    Here’s the address:
