  1. OK if people will pay kind of money for that noise, y’all should see my dining room table. Wedding gift from my father. He cut down a huge old red maple tree on the farm in VT, beautiful one-of-a-kind figure throughout the wood, then had a local woodworker who makes wooden instruments (guitars, etc, really fine stuff) and furniture make us a table out of it. Two big book-matched boards held together with wooden butterfly pegs. Simple and beautiful.

A couple of you have seen it. Anyone recall the table at all?

  2. Lechacal, once the price goes over $1,000 it’s no longer a table but art!!!

A Philistine like yourself wouldn’t understand.

I actually bought a table made by a guy in Boston in 1774 with his label on the bottom for $9,000 (plus buyer’s premium). It was owned originally by Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

  3. it would be my dog’s main gift. he’s due (well kinda overdue) for his rabies shots but ive been chary about the necessity of rabies shots for urban dogs until i found out that there are rabid raccoons in prospect park.

re: photography… i was pretty good with black and white but i had a hell of a time for some reason working the color machines wound up dropping that class anyway because it seemed like i wasnt going to get the hang of it. and the color machine room was too claustrophobic.

  4. He was there when we visited. He opened up his place to the Japan Society. He was very nice to us and we got to see how he made the stuff. We had such a good time that day. And seeing his beautiful work. I bet that desk will last forever, Slopie. It must be gorgeous at your place in the fall, Dibs because we went in October and it was amazing.
