  1. See you there Lech…unless some shitstorm hits the fan and I have to stay in the office but I doubt anything like that will happen. I am not exactly some important or semi-important lawyer or anything.

  2. My mother had rules growing up. She announced them as though they were handed down with the 10 Commandments. There were a lot of them. (Never call anyone after 10pm, sitting on you bed with boys in the bedroom “is not done”, never eat an orange before going to bed, Always answer the phone the “H” Residence, even if your friends laugh, etc. there are MORE oh God there are more) BUT a big one was:

Never turn on the TV while eating dinner. Dinner is a social time with your family to talk about things and not to watch television.

I really believe this and think it applies to restaurants. Also to forms of electronic communication. (Especially blackberries and Iphones and other PDAs. LOSE THEM AT MEALS)

  3. bxgrl, someone (maybe Arkady?) pointed out to me why certain sounds are louder to us (such as music/TVs, etc) as we age yet we find it harder and harder to hear people speak during conversation. I’m definitely starting to experience that, although my days spent playing in a band have likely taken away some of my hearing that would have made noisy music more clear to me.

  4. I stopped watching HGTV when they became all about buying and selling. I couldn’t stand the whining over paint colors either BDSM. Or the complaints that the kitchen didn’t have granite countertops or the bathroom a glass shower room. In a 180,000 house no less.

  5. If you are interested in supplementing slopefarm’s excellent summary of the origins of hannukah, click here, open the video of the lecture, and listen from 18:00 through 19:45 (heard this on subway this morning).

  6. “No, not shilling, arkady. Actually, a few good folks I know are on the list, but “that woman”‘s inclusion seemed odd to me as well.”

Snort! Can’t believe she made it on there!

  7. I have no problem with bars having TVs, even 10 of them. What I can’t stand is when relatively high end nice restaurants feel the need to have very loud music.

Craig LeBain, the Phiily Inquirer restaurant critic has faulted many of these places in Philly and given some fewer stars because of it and I know it has caused some of them to lower the music.
