Wow, that’s too high then. I was thinking of something towards a nice gift, not a major part of someone’s annual comp
And yes, our admins got / get bonuses from the firm.
“At my previous firm in NYC we all did it (not organized by the boss). I used to give $200 total for the two people we had IIRC.”
etson, first of all, tips and bonuses in Canada are WAY lower than in New York, so you should be fine. Secondly, if all I was “encouraged” to give was $200, I would be thrilled. Some of the admins here rack up upwards of $30K in holiday tips from the people they cover. That is obviously after tax receipts AND doesn’t include the bonuses they get from the firm. It’s pretty insane.
would it be wrong to dress up like a super / porter / maintenance person / etc and wander around for a few hours a night in some of those new moonface buildings and see if any might randomly give you tips? would that be illegal?
I meant to check whether we do that here Biff. I don’t think so, else I would have heard something.

As a follow-up to our tip conversation last week, I was just told by my boss the amount of money we are strongly encouraged* to give to our admins as a holiday bonus. I would have fallen off my chair had I been sitting. I want to go to admin school.
*encouraged = pay up or we’ll send incriminating pictures of you in compromising positions to your spouse.
Rob, French don’t bathe/shower everyday and many don’t wear deodorant or so I am told…. Americans are clean freaks in contrast. But the Japanese have to be the most obsessed with personal cleanliness….

DH, can you give me an example of this? I am fascinated with these frog dames getting A+ from all these guys.
