DeLepp- what’s really awful is sending out resume after resume, and not even getting the courtesy of a reply. The jobs are not out there and I am qualified to do a lot of different things but everyone wants people in their 20’s and 30’s. They don’t care about experience or accomplishments.
The whole notion of ‘welfare’ is actually an interesting one; there was an interview with a (fairly libertarian) woman who got a lot of public assistance (very low income), but wasn’t on ‘welfare’ which was something that her lazy neighbors who scam people got.
The fact that there’s nothing called ‘welfare’ makes it sort of a moving target. I think we should just decide on one program (maybe corn subsidies?), rename it ‘welfare’ and then eliminate it. Then everybody would be happy.
“I swallowed live, swimming river shrimp (like goldfish) to prove my willingness to “understand” Japanese people and ate soup with floating eyeballs.”
Sucker.
Yeah, like I said ENY, I quit being so eager to please. BUT on the other hand if all I had to do was eat a couple of swimming guppies to lose 15 pounds, I’d consider it.
Oh Barfwell, there is a real familiarity with Japanese on this blog. We have either had love affairs with Japanese, had sex with Japanese, worked for Japanese companies, have Japanese friends, lived in Japan, speak, read write Japanese or just happen to love Miss Kitty. So we have the level of familiarity to transcend the straightjacket of politically correct, well, compliance.
In other news,
I finished the wood bench project this weekend.
It started with a 200lb piece of driftwood I found a few weeks back.
At the same time I found a couple of pieces of weathered 8X12 which must have come from a broken pier.
I planed the large piece during the Thanksgiving weekend,
I decided not to stain it cause I liked the weathered appearance of the wood so I just treated it with Thompson’s water seal.
Problem was that I didn’t have enough weathered 8X12 wood to bring the bench up to a decent height.
Problem solved yesterday. Driving on Bushwick Ave.,
I spotted a giant boulder. got out of the car, put on an old sweatshirt from the trunk and picked that sucker up.
Word to the wise, do not pick up 100+ size boulders past your 30’s!
The boulder had a flat top which was just the right height to counterbalance the other side of the bench.
Looks awesome by the side of the house, like some sort of primitive sculpture.
Total cost $0.
Legion, Prudential called…I think you’re in trouble.

Sea urchin is bad enough dead — ick!
bxgrl, I find it VERY HARD to believe that someone of your intelligence couldn’t find a job paying $450 a week in less than 24 hrs.
