that 250K figure that is always used……Doesn’t that mean ‘taxable’ income of more than $250k?
like after all your deductions for mortgage, charity, state and local taxes, 401k contributions, crotchfruit, etc, etc, etc….. So to have taxable income of that much –
You are probably earning $350K gross?
DCB- believe it. And don’t think for a moment I haven’t been looking. I’m either overqualified, or supposedly not qualified enough. And unfortunately there are millions of others like me. Employers don’t even want to hire the unemployed- look at the news reports. They don’t want people over 40. They want you to do everything and pay you 10 dollars an hour. I saw jobs advertised as part-time and they mandated 35 hours a week. Since when is that part time?
I pick up freelance stuff as I can but unless you’ve been in this position, you don’t know.
Rewrite: Good Grief: 24 more months of Bush’s tax cuts for people earning more than $250,000/year. At what point does this cease to be [actually, I can’t think of a benign name for it] and start to become welfare?
And no real funding mechanism for any of it. Nice to see both sides abandoning their principles.
But maybe if I don’t say any of these things, DIBS will spring for Friday’s lunch using a small portion of his anticipated tax savings.
bfarwell, you japanese?

But allowing people to keep more of their own money is not “welfare” by any definition.
“I think we should just decide on one program (maybe corn subsidies?), rename it ‘welfare’ and then eliminate it.”
“Nice to see both sides abandoning their principles.”
Agreeing with left leaning folks twice in one day. Can’t be good for me!
and yes, coat story was hilarious, bfarwell.
Biff- lol!
