  1. “Economies expand because people innovate, start businesses and take risks. The money for that comes from people with initiative who invest. Tax those people, and investment goes away.”

Hence the deep poverty of western Europe, a vast slum crawling with children rooting through the trash for a morsel of food while their parents collapse under cardboard boxes for a brief respite from donating blood for food.

  2. (reaching back in the thread-) M4L, nope, though rather ruddy in comparison to my wife and kids, by background is definitely white.

(Although I’m a member of the NAACP, if that counts for anything. 😉

  3. “Biff Champion – Don’t doctors who perform circumcisions have tip jars?”

“DeLepp – biff, I’ll be carrying a tip jar thursday night then. Be generous.”

You’re going to have to wait until biff has six beers before he’ll be generous in that way.

  4. I am a very generous tipper. By the time I left Manhattan, I was tipping $600 for Christmas. And I always tipped the Super and porters for anything they helped with in the apartment. I also tip the NY Times delivery guy around the holidays, but not the mailman.

But, I’ve drawn the line at tip jars at delis, coffee shops, etc.

Does anyone here park in a garage where they only have monthly valet parking? If so, are you supposed to tip the guy every time you pick and drop off your car? Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t, but I don’t know what the norm is.
