  1. DH, haha!

I thought if somebody didn’t mention that, you would likely note how few of the albums I posted are recent.

But I stand by Alanis. She’s a great musician and, unlike Taylor, Whitney, etc., wrote her own stuff. Jagged Little Pill was/is an excellent album. Now Celine Dion’s, which won the following year, on the other hand…

  2. bfarwell, if you tax the pool of money that would otherwise go into investment, you get less investment and more government.
Investment creates businesses, which produce jobs, which makes us a prosperous country.
You can’t tax a nation into prosperity.

  3. I think the argument that people don’t innovate or work hard when taxes are high is kind of bs. I’ve never made a single career decision based on marginal tax rates. I’d be doing exactly what I’m doing now if taxes were higher. Or lower.

    Regulation kills innovation. Not taxes.

So does government displacement of the private sector. But that’s a different argument. That’s about how much you spend and how you spend it, not how you raise it to begin with.

  4. a lot of the countries with super high taxes, the people are not bombarded 24/7 with advertising and media making them feel bad about the things they do not have. that’s one of the things that makes America special. it’s a wonderful place to wallow in econonomic self pity.

    *rob*

  5. Ireland/Spain/Portugal are collapsing because of taxation?

My point, more generally, is that there are plenty of countries with radically differing tax levels that have economies doing well. Ditto the past history of the US, when we had lots of innovation and higher taxes. And times when we had lower taxes and also innovation. It’s a red herring.

  6. Bxgrl, there is not one doubt in the world that if you want to be a teacher, you will be a teacher.
RF, those have got to be the most negative comments yet posted on this board. (Good for you adopting your daughter, though)
