  1. dona- I don’t know that your father was right- Japan was not able to keep going indefinitely. Once Germany was defeated, the allies would have put their undivided attention to the war in the Pacific.I have no qualms about using weapons to fight the military- but bombing old people, women and children into dust? That was horrible.

    Who the hell would like dropping an a-bomb o anyone? That is totally sick. We didn’t drop it on their armies- we dropped in on their civilians. Dropping a nuclear weapon on anyone is not something to like.

  3. Dogs are great animals for people with certain illnesses and disabilities. My friend has live with dogs her entire life. All of them have been able to detect when her blood sugar gets low enough for her to go into diabetic shock. I wonder what the dog senses. Changes in behaviour? Smell?

  5. Slopey;

    I wasn’t here this morning, so I’ll make a brief comment on your assertion above.

    I think it is well-known that our diplomatic corp marches to its own drummer. They have their own view of the world, and often act on it as much as they can, regardless of who the president is.

  6. Benson, I have that conversation with my father a lot about the bomb. That was always what I thought too, but as I got older, I thought that it was terrible that 100,000 innocent people should have died that way. He assured me that the slaughter would have gone on and on.
    OK, but it was still a hugh tradgedy.
