Slopey, I bow in your general direction. You’re such a smarty pants, you have a great sense of humor and you’re a super nice guy.

I guess Slopey has something that Cobble wants!!!!

  2. Lech, I think it’s fine if you tell your kids there is no Santa, no Easter Bunny, no Tooth Fairy. Just don’t expect them to take care of you in your old age after you ruin their childhood!

  3. Quote: prezanon, I read the book some time ago; I recall it was the guy who blew up the mine and calmly went along on his way (never to be seen again) whom Zola described as the most dangerous of societal figures, an anonymous person bent solely on destroying the status quo. Or something to that effect.

ENY, I’ll have to read (er) watch “Germinal” again. It seems that the instigating guy (Etienne?) did good in exposing the exploitation of the miners, yet some other people paid with their lives. Etienne could have easily died too in the ruckus. (I’m not relating this to Assange, btw).

And Zola was a truth-teller, so was Zola talking about himself as being dangerous? Remember Zola got to the truth in “J’Accuse”, but at great personal cost. His health suffered and it likely caused his early death. Truth-tellers lose a lot, such as in whistle-blowers.

Again, not relating this to Assange, which may be a different kind of thing, just your reference to “Germinal”. I see where you are going with it though. Interesting thought.

Okay, Google says the character was Etienne, an idealist and a radical who had studied socialist theory…

Not relating this to today’s Santa Claus truth discussion either. ha 🙂
