I think that Obama is in a very good position to work with Republicans now a la Clinton. One of the criticisms I have of the Republican Party is where the hell were these people, these fiscal conservatives when the country was going to hell in a handbasket under George W. Bush?? Wrong wars, wrong EXPEN$IVE WAR$, shelling out entitlements like candy, ala Medicare Part D, and now they are standing on the hill of moral purity. At some point, this country needs to sit down like grownups and figure a few things OUT.
Pete, is your relative (niece?) still looking for a job? A friend and former mother’s helper client of my daughter is looking for someone to live in her house and pick up her kids from school. They live in a really nice house in Crown Heights North. They had several au pairs before the kids were both in school (pre-k and 1st grade I think), and all were very happy there.
Depending on what incomes we are taking about, one would have to “fart out” a lot of kids to outweight the “marriage penalty” as people like to call it.
And, if a couple’s combined income hits the AMT, then the penalty is still there, but there are no deductions.

rob, it cost far more to raise a kid than the tax bene that you get, unless of course you’re on welfare
that’s not the point. i dont give a crap how expensive it costs to raise a kid (yeah i know it’s expensive… but it can be cheap too if you know what youre doing) the point is that people get tax benefits for it at the expense of people who choose to be single. it’s not exactly fair. i think that’s why gays get their feathers ruffled because they dont get the tax breaks and benefits that marriage allows, NOT because they are in some sort of loving monogymous relationship (as if those even happen in the gay world, please!)

DH, pass Rob a hit. he needs it bad. or treat him to a calexico beef burrito
I hear ya, M4L – but just remember, this plan may backfire. As a 17 year old, the last thing I wanted to do was what my father wanted me to do.

wah! cry me a river. people who combine their incomes annoy me lol

this country would be better off if people had more kids and we had fewer geese.
No baloney, Rob. Just facts.

I doubt they would be the only options!
Think there’s a chance that neither runs, although Palin looks greater than 50% right now.
