YAK Update:
This is interesting follow up to my comments about the Yak that some people collectively were discussing as a gift to a “poor” person in Arizona in lieu of the little Kris Kringle trinket exchange.
I decided to be honest with the person who asked.
“Hey, we have had a tough year here this year and been through a lot and I think it would be nice that we take the time to do the silly little gift exchange, so that we can make one another laugh and feel good about things and the new year to come. I really want to do that and not buy a Yak.”
“She said, if we decide to do that, I am not doing anything because I am not buying anything for any of these fucking people.”
Back to the basic principle: Charity begins at home.
(From a person who was stupid enough to lose her temper with the top person here…..)
Denton, 200k at Ivy’s are worth it – maybe even the fluff majors. issue is so many OK schools now are asking for 45-55k/yr. in comparison, 200k at Ivy’s is a bargain
Snappy, CUNY is free for low income kids with good grades. My sis finished CUNY for free and and I went for half the price pretty much.
I did fork over a decent amount for a private grad school but I was working so between getting a bit of tuition reimbursement from work and some out of my own pocket, I am loan free.

Slopefarm,

CUNY tuition is less than $5000/year. Maximum Pell grant for low-income students is $4731.
SUNY tuition is about $2k more.
Actually, assuming you can get in, I believe some of the Ivy’s now give free tuition to all families making less than 40k.
Cargar, I’ll be poking you in the eye for that later 🙂
Mass does it too.
CCNY stopped giving free tuition when the ethnicity of the student body started changing.
