  1. “lechacal,
you think it’s more likely to be a mistake on the part of our navy?”

Who said it was a mistake? We fire off missiles all the time and don’t publicise it. Hell I’ve been on ships that have fired off missiles withing that distance of shore and we never said anything about it. The Pentagon can be pretty ham-handed when it comes to dealing with the press, so the guy in charge of this one might just be assuming if they keep making no comment people will STFU and forget about it, when actually the lack of confirmation just leads to conspiracy theories.

  2. MM,

People often accuse me of over-simplifying things.
The truth is, though, reality works in simple ways.
Monumental decisions are made based on nothing more than a
passing thought at the time or on established and entrenched notions.

In our modern society of films and documentaries and biographies we often see reality dissected away into it’s minute components. What ocurrs over the span of one day can be turned into an entire season of a popular show. So many people believe that everything must have complexity behind it. Not always.

Obviously, President Obama’s economic team believed the stimulus would work. Spend a trillion and stimulate the economy. He believed it too. Hasn’t worked, he chose his own ideas over historical example.
Several members of that economic team have since resigned.

    lechacal,
you think it’s more likely to be a mistake on the part of our navy?
    who knows these days.
I do know one thing, and perhaps this was borne out in your meeting yesterday night:
There’s alot of angst around the globe.

  3. I did see the Marty Markowitz/Danny Meyer show at Borough Hall today. That’s a good thing IMO. Does Shake Shack stay open late? If Marty could realize his dream/obsession and get an Apple Store into Borough Hall, it could really liven up that space at night

  4. I was cruising the men’s room at Macy’s and noticed a lot more traffic throughout the store. I asked one of the clerks who was standing next to me at the urinal whether sales were soft or hard? He gave me an analogy and I bought the call options.

  5. “Insider trading?”

Not even close, and different in a couple of key respects from the case we talked about a couple of weeks ago (although I think the information there was not specific enough for it to stand up).
    – ‘getting busier in the store’ is public information. Store is open to the public!
    – It’s also not very specific.
    – information is not material to the stock price. It’s only one department in one store in a large chain.

  6. No, denton. In fact, the clerk’s analysis could be very faulty. She doesn’t know what’s going on throughout the chain so doesn’t really have inside information.

I, on the other hand, had lunch with Macy’s CFO and asked about same store sales. He gave me a wink and I bought the options.

    Insider trading???

Who’s more liklely to get caught???
