I know someone who rents out S8 apartments, he actually prefers them to market rate, because he’s guaranteed payment, and if the tenant messses up, by doing something illegal, or trashing the apt, they are out. I think the reality of those in the Section 8 program, both landlord and tenant, is far different from the popular view of both of them.

it creates an unfair situation for working class people who are not on section 8 who cannot afford inflated rents on the LOWER end of the spectrum.. which is why it’s unfair. and like you said a lot of landlords prefer section 8 tenants. honestly i dont think section 8 tenants in the city are all the bad at all, however landlords in the suburbs all over the country who take section 8 (same prices cuz it’s a federal program) seriously screw up neighborhoods. obviously not all section 8 tenants are bad, but in general that is not the case. im sure you are going to flat out deny it, but it’s the total truth. look at any city data forum for any city or area in the country and you will see that is the case. i have no problems with people getting rent subsidies, but those subsidies should be for low incoming housing specifically. the whole voucher program has done more harm than good for a lot of people who choose to not be drains on society.

  2. Ringo!!!

    1. Thanks, I haven’t seen the new pricing at 1BBP, but I am definitely still interested. I made a list a couple of weeks ago of all the 2 bedrooms I want to see – one even has outdoor space – but haven’t had a chance to schedule viewings with my broker.

    B. As for 25 Carroll, I agree with you, and I’ve seen them selling. The apartments look fantastic. I just don’t know that I want to live that far down and over. 1BBP is, at most, a 5-minute longer walk for me in the morning, and it’s where I park my car anyway, so, to my surprise, moving to the other side of the BQE in the Heights doesn’t bother me (anymore).

Third, when are you meeting me for a drink (my treat) at Montero’s??? As my late mother was fond of saying, “It’s enough already!”.

  3. “Hi CGar! (how funny was that on Facebook by the by?)”

    Hi Noki!!! <3

LOL, yes, I logged on to FB to post birthday greetings for dave, then posted 2-3 times on your FB page yesterday, then I stalked chicken a little bit, and crossed paths with Goat Boy.

And, PS, since I am in Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill, you must stop looking elsewhere and wait for the right property to come on the market . . . unless, of course, CDog and I move in with you, which definitely works for me.

  4. Noki, that house has been on lis pendens at least once and maybe twice over the last 5 yrs – ie you might be able to low-ball them a little. it’s a sweet location and yes, the garage is a huge bonus. if your short buddy values your friendship, he can schlep over to visit (ie it aint that far plus there’s enough restaurants & bars nearby to hang out)

  5. Rob, the city does that in order to make Section 8 attractive to landlords in decent buildings in decent neighborhoods. Otherwise, all Section 8 housing would be going to slumlords in places you wouldn’t let your pet rat walk the street. Just because someone is in S8 housing doesn’t mean they are unworthy of a decent roof over their head in a decent neighborhood.

Actually, the criteria the city sets for S8 housing is really high, for that reason.

  6. Rob, the runners are SUPPOSED to throw their cups on the ground. It is part of the plan!

A friend of mine ran his 27th NYC Marathon yesterday.
Hopefully the Mrs and I I will get to take him out to dinner this week.

  7. “would it help if I added in short AND TRIM?”

    1. I prefer “Vertically challenged”.

    B. LOL, and, yes, I can’t hear “TRIM” enough, for which the Pasty Brit is among those I have to thank – you’ll have to find someone else to wear the Santa suit at the PLUSA Holiday Party.
