I don’t think it’s productive to compare the United States to France to extrapolate lessons about how we should run things here. There are so many reasons France is different. They don’t have the same fights over there that we have here. They have common ground where we don’t and vice versa. It doesn’t matter whether we want to be where France is right now. We aren’t France. They never had the same choices we did. History matters, and their history is different. The labels we use to discuss politics over here don’t even work over there.
fact: if Obama does not win in 2012 it’s going to be 1968/69 all over again… which isnt a bad thing, really.. but at the same time it sorta is. Anyone think Co-Presidents would work? One Repub one Dem?! I dont know, that’s how things are quelled in a lot of other spheres where things could get ugly if both parties don’t win. I was Co-Prez of the school’s chapter of the psychology national honor society when me and the person running against me were BFF’s but running against each other. Why can’t it work out in national politics?

Yeah, no, I really don’t see Hillary challenging Obama in 2012. I really don’t think she wants to run again. And, she and Obama have come around to like and respect each other — they are no Jimmy Carter – Teddy Kennedy.

Good point m4l. It’s amazing how fast top politicians age in office (Clinton, GW Bush, Tony Blair, Obama all have / did IMO).
