Oh and noki your 10:56 response is a total non-response. What’s your answer? I have the book sitting on my shelf at home. Haven’t read it in a long time but surely you don’t read it so narrowly to think it warns only of the dangers of the right?
Bad lefty people who took away everybody’s rights and did really bad stuff:
1. Stalin (duh)
2. Castro
3. Mugabe
4. Mao
5. Pol Pot
6. etc etc
Bad righty people who took away everybody’s rights and did really bad stuff:
1. Hitler (duh)
2. Franco (well he wasn’t all that bad really, but we’ll put him on the list anyways)
3. Mussolini
4. That whole thing that happened in Japan in the 30s and 40s, whoever you can really blame that on, not sure if Hirohito is really the right person to name here.
5. Bush (j/k, j/k, this isn’t NPR, but you totally nodded in agreement didn’t you, you bloody liberal)
6. etc etc
Which proves two things: (1) you are wrong, and (2) humans are evil and the struggle for meaning and good is pointless, just give up now.
I really wonder if the owner was naive or totally cynical and trying to pull a fast one.
However, as Donatella pointed out, the owner switched ownership to a corporation, which of course limits his liability.
sorry to hear about 107 gates DCB. What a bummer cause it is a really nice house. I don’t think anybody would be dumb enough to buy it with the potential for violations so strong but maybe I am wrong.
That’s really unfortunate, DCB. I have a friend who inherited his Bed-Stuy house from his grandmother. What’s awful is that he keeps doing all these patch jobs instead of having professionals do approved work. It’s a beautiful house with lots of original unpainted details, but he’s gonna get killed when he wants to sell it. One broker told him he would have to price it about $150K below market and even then most buyers will haggle the price down.
You don’t even want to see the “new” bathroom a bunch of crackheads put in. Terrible.
I love Rich Perri! I always learn something when I go on an inspection with him. He really knows his stuff, is fair, and tells it like it is. If something is a problem he says so, but also tells you how it can be corrected (if you want to fix it).
DCB, was the work not done to code & unprofessional or was there just no permits pulled?
You are not likely to find many places where the permits have actually beeen pulled throughout Brooklyn.
I’m back. Anything happen that doesn’t suck?

Sorry to hear about 107 Gates, but I think that was pretty much the consensus about it from others who’d seen it and posted here.
